Erich Eisfeld 1930 (english) (35)
Von Matthias C.S. Dreyer
An original postcard from the year 1930 has surfaced. What makes it sensational is its connection to Kalmit, the Weather Station, and our vineyard.

Erich Eisfeld, one of the first weather observers at the Weather Station, writes from Kalmit to Dr. Lichtenauer. “To Dr. Lichtenauer, Landau, Pfalz, Nordring 12 Dear Dr. Lichtenauer, Since you not only take an interest in the weather station but also in my well-being, please allow me to address you as above. Your words, from which I can see your willingness to assist me and enable me to enjoy a cheerful journey to the Southern Palatinate, have brought me great joy. So, I look forward to meeting you at the time you suggested so that I can impart some knowledge to you. With kind regards to your wife and yourself, from E. Eisfeld and Mrs. Eisfeld.”

This is likely one of the last communications from Erich Eisfeld related to Kalmit, as during this time, his successor Karl Sonntag had already started his service at the Weather Station.
His successor, Karl Sonntag, established a plant-climatic experimental garden with a vineyard. According to Burckhardt in 1934: “As a scientific special task, phenological observations are conducted by the observatory, for which there is enough opportunity, as opposed to the Zugspitze, since Kalmit is still within the zone of plant and animal life. In order not to rely only on the existing plants and to be able to conduct independent experiments, a plant-climatic experimental field was established by the long-time observer Dr. K. Sonntag. Growth experiments are conducted here, the effects of meteorological elements on growth are studied, and finally, zoo-climatology is practiced.”
