Planting of a Vineyard (2)

On April 25, 2023, a vineyard was established on the Kalmit in the former NATO area.
Establishment and Weather
In rainy weather and at around 10 degrees Celsius, eight men established a vineyard on the Kalmit, the highest mountain in the Palatinate Forest. The initiative was sparked by Matthias C.S. Dreyer with the support of the municipality of Maikammer, the Club Sellemols (Historical Enthusiasts of Maikammer-Alsterweiler), and the company Klima-Palatina.
In just under 2 hours, they dug 40 planting holes. The Kalmit and its soil proved to be quite challenging, with little humus, scarce topsoil, and numerous stones - fine Palatine sandstone - making planting a sweat-inducing endeavor. Following their work, the gentlemen gathered in the wine tavern of Weingut Erich Stachel, where they enjoyed a light snack provided by the local community, along with the finest wine and sparkling wine.
